Mission Statement

The James Street Improvement District (JSID) promotes, plans and advocates to improve quality of life through a clean, safe and economically vibrant community.

The James Street Improvement District (JSID) was created in March 2003 by a consortium of community members including Franklin & Marshall College, Lancaster General Hospital and local businesses. The JSID’s primary areas of focus are community and economic development in Northwest and Downtown area of Lancaster City. Modeled after improvement districts across the country, the JSID places emphasis on the importance of a clean and safe environment, enhancing the quality of life for residents, employees and visitors and in supporting the local business base. The JSID is a non-profit corporation and is primarily funded through charitable contributions from major employers and institutions, local foundations, small businesses and individuals.
